Dugort Silver Strand

This beautiful location offers great sheltered fishing and is most pleasurable. My favourite beach on Achill and not just for fishing. Obviously, like most of Achill's fine blue flag beaches, this one can also get full with holiday makers during those long summer days but try to go on a cooler day and you might be able to cast a line.
If very busy then the rocky area to the right of the strand can also offer great fishing. Be careful here though as its a known route for kayakers visiting the hidden caves further along.
I find that shore angling is better just right of the centre of the beach and have caught, Sea trout, Bull huss, ling etc at all tides. Bait like Mackerel strips to golden spinners do quite well here.
You can even pop into the local bar in the Strand Hotel to console yourself if you hit a blank.

Sea Angling on Achill Island obviously has its highs and lows, just like the tide! If you are planning a trip out fishing then you can now check the Achill tide table and plan your trip to suit the tides.
